Totalspan's Top 5 Reasons To Build With Steel

Starting to think about storage solutions and finding lots of different options in the market? This article will help guide your decision that could save you both time and money. Totalspan have been building steel sheds for over 30 years now so have a lot of experience when it comes to buildings and finding the right solution for our customers. Here are our top 5 reasons why we think you should build with Steel!

1. Built To Last

Steel is surprisingly light but incredibly strong. Our steel is durable and of highest-quality which is why we can offer our customers a 25-year structural guarantee! Whereas other building materials (such as timber) generally offer a warranty far less than that. It is worth checking other building options warranty details before making a purchase decision.

Totalspan also engineers specifically to your build site to ensure that our sheds are built to last – we don’t cut corners! No problem if you live in a cyclonic region – we can build to withstand even the toughest conditions.

2. Easy maintenance

We use a pre painted steel designed to withstand Australia’s toughest weather conditions. Not only do we use steel that is made to Australian standards, but steel will generally last longer than alternative building materials like timber.

Steel is also naturally washed by rainwater and will keep its good looks and perform for many years. There is also no need to worry about termites, rotting wood or potential fire damage!

Steel naturally outperforms timber in almost every way - the material is straight and true, free of defects, knots, camber or shrinkage.

3. For the environment

Did you know that steel is 100% recyclable? We’ve teamed up with UniCote as our steel provider and are proud to work with a company that looks toward an environmentally sustainable future. Not only is steel recyclable but UniCote steel assists in improved water collection. Unlike cement tiles, UniCote steel doesn’t absorb water and allows for greater rainwater collection. UniCote steel meets the Australian Standard for harvesting drinking water – AS/NZ 4020.

Some manufacturers use cheaper inferior paint systems that make use of ultra violet unstable paint finishes that wash away in the tough Australian climate and into your storm water systems and drinking water sources. Don’t get caught out using these inferior products!

4. Fast and easy to build

Steel buildings generally take considerably less time to build than other types of buildings. Our sheds are delivered in flat packs with clear instruction manuals to keep the build as simple as possible. Our local Australian factory manufactures the steel profiles which are pre-cut to length and packed together with all components you require to erect your shed, negating the requirement to cut on site or sourcing materials from different manufacturers – saving vast amounts of time.

5. Affordable and no need to compromise on design

Steel is generally more affordable than its timber counterparts. Not only is steel generally cheaper but some of our buildings only need a few builders onsite to erect a shed which could also save you additional labour costs. A common misconception is that shed companies only offer kit sheds. Totalspan does offer kit sheds but we also custom design – it’s our specialty! We have a dedicated custom design team that works to bring our customers dream shed to reality - no compromise on design!
